History

The Chester County Chamber of Business & Industry began as an instrument for political solidarity among like-minded business leaders. Through out the 12 years of its existence, the Chamber has lead the way in business advocacy and pro-business political involvement. Through membership and community initiatives, the Chamber works towards continuing the exceptional quality of life enjoyed by the residents and workers of Chester County.

The Chamber was formally established in 1992 by a group of County business leaders that recognized the need for an organization committed to represent business interests of its members to elected officials. Political advocacy remains a keystone of the Chamber, but the organization has evolved into much more. The first President of the Chamber was State Senator Bob Thompson, whose vision of the organization became the foundation of the Chamber. Years of solid growth and commitment from the Chamber membership has brought the organization where it is today, a vibrant and forward thinking member association ready to embrace the challenges of the 21st century.

The John H. Ware 3rd Commerce Center is a fine example of an 18th century Pennsylvania farmhouse. Home of the Chester County Chamber of Business and Industry, this charming serpentine stone farmhouse was renovated December 2000. The house was built in the 1720's as the home of Joseph Garrett upon his marriage to Mary Sharples. The serpentine stone farmhouse is part of 26-acre Goshenville, which was added to the National Register of Historic Places in November 2000.

In 2001, the Chamber dedicated the center in honor of former Congressman John H. Ware 3rd. Widely regarded as one of the most influential people in Pennsylvania politics, Mr. Ware served three terms with distinction in the Pennsylvania Senate. He also represented the 9th Congressional District in the US Congress from 1970 - 1975. Mr. Ware founded Penn Fuel & Gas, Inc. and American Water Works Company. He was a true business leader who cared very deeply about our region and our Commonwealth.
