“Both Alien and Familiar: Ornamental Mythologies and the Recognizable Object”
Ms. Tammie Rubin, M.F.A., Assistant Professor of Ceramics, University of Illinois, Urbana – Champaign, IL will give a lecture about her recent wall sculptures. Three of her recent works are on display in the Ware Center display cabinets.
“Form, Image and Content: Sources of Inspiration”
Mr. Jeff Chapp, M.F.A., Associate Professor of Studio Arts, Lincoln University, will give a brief overview of his development as a ceramic artist/object maker discussing aesthetic concerns and sources of inspiration. A mini-retrospective of works related to his lecture will be on view in the Ware Center display cabinets.

Embellishment: The Textural Possibilities of Casting Slip
Professor Rubin’s workshop will present a variety of techniques for developing intricate surfaces utilizing casting slip on cast ceramic objects. Through incorporating texture, pattern, image, and color, layered surfaces will be developed while working with clay in a variety of stages. Techniques such as slip trailing, stenciling, stamping, sgraffito, and under-glaze application will be demonstrated in this workshop. Students will also learn how to make a plaster mold of a tile they create during the workshop.
This workshop will accommodate a maximum of eight (8) students. Students interested in participating in the workshop need to contact Prof. Chapp at jchapp@lincoln.edu or Dr. Lawton at snlawton@lincoln.edu by Monday, November 14th.
