Chester County is ripe for discovery

Known for our horticulture, heritage and horses Chester County is one of the most picturesque areas you can visit in the nation. Perhaps one of our most well known and visited landmarks is Longwood Gardens.

Exquisite flowers, majestic trees, dazzling fountains, extravagant conservatory, starlit theatre, thunderous organ—all describe the magic of Longwood Gardens, a horticultural showstopper where the gardening arts are encased in classic forms and enhanced by modern technology. Many generations helped create Longwood Gardens, but one individual—Pierre S. du Pont (1870-1954), industrialist, conservationist, farmer, designer, impresario, and philanthropist—made the most enduring contribution. Today Longwood Gardens is sure to delight anyone who loves exquisite flowers, majestic trees, and opulent architecture. Here, amid 1,077 acres with 20 indoor and 20 outdoor gardens, you’ll find beauty at every turn.

Chester County is also known as the Mushroom Capital of the World. Over 51% of the nation’s mushroom crops are grown right here in Southern Chester County in  Kennett Square. A quaint village, with unique shops, a rich history and wonderful wineries, you won’t want to miss stopping by Kennett Square while visiting Chester County.

Since the winery’s first release in 1983, each successive vintage has received critical acclaim from wine writers and critics across the country.

Chester County’s ties to the birth of our nation are preserved at the Brandywine Battlefield Historic Site. The Battle of Brandywine brings to life the largest engagement of the Revolutionary War, fought on September 11, 1777, between the Continental Army led by General George Washington and the British forces headed by General William Howe.

Outdoor activities abound with a parks and recreation system that includes biking, hiking, camping and water activities galore.
